Did the Sendai Framework change or contribute to changes in your activities/organization? If so, how?
The 3S Kadets programme is in line with Sendai Framework priorities for action and global targets.
This programme is also one of the good practices for ARISE, the Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies. The project addresses the ARISE commitments to raise awareness with respect to disaster risk and mobilization of private sector; exercise influence in respective spheres of expertise; and share knowledge, experience and good practices amongst the private sector.
What led you to make this commitment/initiative?
What was your position before making this Voluntary Commitment / prior to the Sendai Framework?
In recent years, some communities that K-COOP serves have been experiencing the adverse effects of severe typhoons and other calamities that hit their area, e.g., destruction of properties, involuntary displacement, loss of financial resources, disruption of their businesses, injury and illness. The project jumpstarted with the identification of 7 most vulnerable areas of K-COOP from the provinces of Rizal and Bulacan that are often affected by typhoon and severe flooding, and are situated in the East Valley fault and thus highly at risk from the “the Big One”.
This project aims to foster disaster resilience among members, their families, and the communities where we operate.
