Advancing Gender Equality in DRR: UNDRR Hosts Webinar on Implementing and Reporting on the Sendai Gender Action Plan via SFVC online platform
Sendai GAP and SFVC
On 19 December 2024, 315 people joined the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) for a webinar for non-government stakeholders on “Implementing and Reporting on the Sendai Gender Action Plan”. The event brought together people from civil society, academia, women’s organizations, the private sector, and other community-based groups who are implementing the Gender Action Plan for the Sendai Framework (Sendai GAP).
The webinar aimed to strengthen non-governmental stakeholder engagement with the Sendai GAP, which supports the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction by advancing gender-responsive DRR and empowering women and gender stakeholders in resilience-building efforts.
Participants gained a deeper understanding of the purpose and scope of the Sendai GAP, including its nine objectives and 33 recommended actions. Practical guidance was shared on integrating these actions into organizational work and reporting progress through the Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments online platform (sendaicommitments.undrr.org).
Through interactive presentations and discussions, attendees exchanged good practices in gender-responsive DRR and explored how to amplify visibility and impact using the reporting platform. The sessions emphasized the importance of inclusive implementation and highlighted the support needed to scale up gender-focused efforts toward the 2030 goal of reduced gender-related disaster risk.
