U-INSPIRE Indonesia, with a published commitment, highlighted at the International Youth Day 2021
Considering future climate risks and their impacts on agriculture, there is the need to transition to more sustainable food production systems. Kiki Kartikasari is a member of U-INSPIRE Indonesia and a Project Officer at Carbon and Environmental Research (CER). Her efforts to support agro-industrial companies to know their carbon footprint and take climate action were showcased as part of the celebrations for the International Youth Day (IYD) on 12 August 2021.
Kiki also works on climate index insurance to ensure premium is calculated on reliable thresholds without cutting across the benefits for farmers. Among the challenges faced in her work, she points to data collection and the identification of indicators that are relevant across countries.
This year’s IYD theme is “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health.” U-INSPIRE Indonesia published a Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitment to foster Indonesian youth and young professional as generators of science, engineering, and technology for disaster resilience. Thus, UNDRR invited them to further highlight their work.
