The 12th CITYNET Disaster Cluster Seminar was held in the city of Yokohama, 4-6 September 2019, with the participation of city officials from 13 cities and other stakeholders. In the seminar, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) delivered a keynote presentation appealing to cities to consider the Sendai Framework’s urgency of target (e), concrete actions toward its implementation and to share initiatives on DRR with the international community through the Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments online platform.
This event gathers leaders, experts and stakeholders to exchange knowledge. According to the City of Yokohama, delegates from construction, medical consulting and advisory firms as well as academia, among others, spoke on: investment; available services and ongoing projects aimed at disaster prevention and building resilience. This event also conducted field trips: for example, a visit to the Yokohama Disaster Risk Reduction Learning Center where participants had hands-on experience using water hoses and other firefighting skills.
CITYNET plans to submit its voluntary commitment shortly, sharing their long-standing work on DRR at the city level.
