Mission

Established in 1988, CEPREDENAC is the specialized institution of the Central American Integration System for disaster prevention, mitigation and response. The Governments of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama are active members, while in 2008 Belize and Dominican Republic are in the process of becoming members. CEPREDENAC's inter-sectoral agenda is harmonized with other specialized regional entities in areas as hydrological resources, agriculture, nutrition and food security.

Disaster Reduction Goal

The Regional Disaster Reduction Plan (PRRD) aims at contributing to disaster reduction as an integral part of the sustainability of Central American societies. Its strategic objectives are: promoting the incorporation of disaster risk reduction in legislation, policies; enhancing and developing greater resilience of the population to disaster risk; and promoting the incorporation of disaster risk analysis in the design and implementation of prevention, mitigation, response, recovery and reconstruction in the countries of the region (PRRD 2006-2015).

Voluntary Commitments

The organization has no registered commitments.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform serves to incentivize stakeholders to inform the public about their work, to provide a vehicle for sharing commitments and initiatives and for motivation toward the implementation of the Sendai Framework. In turn, UNDRR can monitor and take stock of the progress and impact.
