Mission

The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) plans and controls the development policies of the Federal Government while also being responsible for their implementation. Development policy is more than just solidarity and the support of worldwide humane living conditions. As international structural policy, it is an instrument for realising the common interests and meeting the challenges of all peoples in an effective and sustainable way.

Politics on Three Levels
The BMZ acts on three levels: at home, in our partner states and in international organisations such as the UN or the World Bank.

Development policy plays a role when it comes to relieving the burden of debt of the poorest countries, stopping global warming or developing international strategies against poverty

Disaster Reduction Goal

The German government is supporting efforts by particularly vulnerable countries to prevent disasters or imrpove the ability to cope with them. The German support ranges from risk analyses and training measures to early warning systems and infrastructural improvements, for example earthqauke-proof buildings and various climate change adaptation measures. German institutiions are able to contribute their internationally acknowledged expertise and the German private sector can offer its technical know-how.

Voluntary Commitments

The organization has no registered commitments.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform serves to incentivize stakeholders to inform the public about their work, to provide a vehicle for sharing commitments and initiatives and for motivation toward the implementation of the Sendai Framework. In turn, UNDRR can monitor and take stock of the progress and impact.
