Mission

Established as a public organization, Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency – GISTDA is the core organization for utilizing space and geo-informatics technology for the prosperous of Thailand. With its goal to exploit space technology, GISTDA engages its capabilities including Earth observation infrastructure, knowledge and skills for strengthening economy, society, security, preserving environment and mitigating losses from disaster events. Not only does GISTDA provide geo-informatics-based products and services as its initial responsibility, but also anticipates and prepares for the future needs. These ultimately converge to the GISTDA’s challenging missions:“Delivering Values from Space”

Having a mandate to continuously provide geo-informatics data and services, GISTDA strengthen its service capability by focusing on provision of value-added products and total solutions to cope for customer’s need e.g. economic crop maps, flood and drought monitoring systems and web map services. GISTDA, in collaboration with other governmental agencies, have created the Fundamental Geographic Data Set – FDGS which comprises of 13 categories of infrastructure data: aerial images, satellite images, geodetic monument, Digital Elevation Model (DEM), administrative boundary, transportation, hydrology, urban and town, forest, land use, topographic map, cadastral, and naval hydrographic. Each of these is created based on the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) which is a national standard aimed to facilitate the collaboration, reduce redundant and complex tasks, and save budget.

Voluntary Commitments

The organization has no registered commitments.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform serves to incentivize stakeholders to inform the public about their work, to provide a vehicle for sharing commitments and initiatives and for motivation toward the implementation of the Sendai Framework. In turn, UNDRR can monitor and take stock of the progress and impact.
