Mission

The National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction is the agency under the Ministry of Science and Technology (Taiwan) serving as the technical adviser to the executive branch of the government of Taiwan on disaster prevention and reduction affairs.

Its mission includes:

  • To establish R&D platforms;
  • To support academic research;
  • To promote frontier science and technology; and
  • To foster high-tech manpower. In addition, the NARL will also promote the vertical integration of nation's technology development systems. As an ultimate goal, NARL intends to transform itself into a research institute of international renown.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform serves to incentivize stakeholders to inform the public about their work, to provide a vehicle for sharing commitments and initiatives and for motivation toward the implementation of the Sendai Framework. In turn, UNDRR can monitor and take stock of the progress and impact.
