Mission

UN Global Compact is a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. By doing so, business, as a primary driver of globalization, can help ensure that markets, commerce, technology and finance advance in ways that benefit economies and societies everywhere. Overall, the Global Compact pursues two complementary objectives: 1. Mainstream the ten principles in business activities around the world; 2. Catalyze actions in support of broader UN goals, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) The Cities Programme – an Initiative of the United Nations Global Compact – leads a collaborative City Partnerships framework that aims to catalyse and combine the resources of government, business and civil society to accelerate the implementation of concrete solutions to seemingly intractable urban, social, economic and environmental issues.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform serves to incentivize stakeholders to inform the public about their work, to provide a vehicle for sharing commitments and initiatives and for motivation toward the implementation of the Sendai Framework. In turn, UNDRR can monitor and take stock of the progress and impact.
