Mission

A non-profit, non-government, professional association of broadcasting organizations, formed in 1964 to facilitate the development of broadcasting in the Asia-Pacific region and to organize co-operative activities amongst its members. ABU works closely with the regional broadcasting unions in other parts of the world on matters of common concern, and with many other international organizations, to exchange information on the latest developments in broadcasting, among other activities.

Voluntary Commitments

The Sendai Framework Commitments (SFVC) online platform serves to incentivize stakeholders to inform the public about their work, to provide a vehicle for sharing commitments and initiatives and for motivation toward the implementation of the Sendai Framework. In turn, UNDRR can monitor and take stock of the progress and impact.

ABU Media Summit on Climate Action and Disaster Preparedness
ABU has been at the forefront of issues on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction. Through the summits, this commitment aims at: strengthening the collaboration of broadcasting organizations; encourage the production and dissemination of relevant content; and promote information-sharing networks

Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Media for DRR Initiative
ABU in cooperation with UNDRR started the implementation of the global initiative Media for DRR. This is a commitment to a two-year project with the goal of enhancing the ability of broadcasters to provide useful information for climate change adaptation and disaster prevention in Asia.
