Gender equality, women’s protection, and empowerment are keys to the disaster risk reduction and climate change agendas, and to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. To enable this, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the global roadmap to reduce disaster losses by 2030, calls for women’s capacity development, gender-disaggregated data, and inclusivity in policies, plans, and programs.

The Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment Voluntary Stakeholder Group for DRR in the Arab States, the UN Women Regional Office of the Arab States and the Arab Water Council organized the webinar: "Gender, Climate Change, and Migration: Promising Policy and Programmatic Practice in addressing Linkages from a Gender Equality and a Women's Leadership Perspective."

The event gathered stakeholders from regional/national networks, government, CSOs, NGOs, CBOs, academia, think tanks, media, the private sector, and others. At the event, the UNDRR Office in Japan briefed participants on the opportunities to showcase their work at the Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments platform. Stakeholders were encouraged to submit their commitments and get their gender-related work promoted.
