The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) launched the Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform in December 2018. Since then, a number of stakeholders have been showcasing efforts to build resilient societies by publishing and monitoring Voluntary Commitments (VCs) in support of the implementation of the Sendai Framework through the SFVC online platform. These stakeholders are taking advantage of the opportunity to make their voices heard and their contributions recognized.

The first SFVC report explains the importance of VCs and describes their characteristics. The results suggest that VCs have an average duration of 6.5 years, the scope of their activities is mainly at the national or local levels (58 percent) and are concentrated mainly in Asia (55 percent). NGOs have proportionally submitted more VCs (56 percent), followed by stakeholders in academia and the private sector. The report also provides details about contributions to Sendai Priorities for Action, Targets, Indicators, themes, hazards and SDGs. Finally, the report highlights good practices, particularly focused on Target E, while also identifying challenges and next steps.
