PREDIKT - Innovative Family Preparedness for Disaster Toolkit
PREDIKT is an innovative toolkit to promote children as agents of change in building resilience in their homes, in schools, and in local communities, using an innovative toolkit in a fun and interactive way. We aim to produce and deliver the toolkit to at least 100,000 families by 31 December 2023.
Description
PREDIKT is a family Preparedness for Disaster Toolkit. Our mission is for children to learn together with their parents about disaster preparedness in a fun and interactive way. Currently, the toolkit covers five natural hazards: earthquake, volcano eruption, tsunami, floods, and building fire. By using the toolkit, children can develop household disaster preparedness plans together with their parents, learning about actions to take before, during, and after a disaster by using the PREDIKT boardgame, and learning new terms and useful information using our worksheets.
The toolkit was inspired from a doctoral research funded from Macquarie University Australia, the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC, and Risk Frontiers. The toolkit was then further developed with the support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the US Mission to ASEAN and was launched in April 2018. As of April 2019, the PREDIKT toolkit has been featured in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Australia and have been used by more than 20 agencies and disaster management practitioners based in Asia Pacific region. Agencies have also used the PREDIKT toolkit for pre disaster as well as post disaster situations. In Lombok Earthquake (2018) and Central Sulawesi Earthquake (2018) responses, humanitarian agencies were using the toolkit for learning disaster preparedness as part of psychosocial support services for the disaster-affected children. Currently the toolkit is available in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
Our objective is to keep producing and deliver the toolkit benefiting to at least 100,000 families by 31 December 2023. In addition, we commit to: a) expand more content to cover other hazards; b) translate the toolkit into other languages; and c) make available on our website materials such as worksheets, disaster preparedness tips and tricks, and sticker designs.

Yes. The SFDRR acknowledges children and youth are agents of change. Our vision is to fulfill this commitment where children can contribute in building resilience in their communities.
What led you to make this commitment/initiative?
What was your position before making this Voluntary Commitment / prior to the Sendai Framework?
We believe that children can become agents of change in their communities and that children have the right to take part in decisions that will affect them. When children have sufficient knowledge and skills, access to tools, and supported by adults, they can influence change in their communities. Our mission is to develop the necessary tool for children to engage with adults (e.g. their parents, teachers, local leaders, government officials) to foster dialogue, exchange views, and build productive discussions.

Deliverables
Deliverables are the end-products of the initiative/commitment, which can include issuance of publications or knowledge products, outcomes of workshops, training programs, videos, links, photographs, etc.
At the moment, the toolkit covers five natural hazards: earthquake, volcano eruptions, tsunami, floods, and building fire. We are planning to expand to other hazards, including droughts, typhoons, landslides, and addressing other issues such as climate change, disease outbreak, and conflict prevention. Result will be presented as a link to our website displaying the new versions of the toolkit (these new versions will include the additional hazards).
Currently the toolkit is available in English and Bahasa Indonesia. Agencies and disaster management practitioners based in the UK, Australia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Solomon island, Thailand, and Malaysia.
We are planning to translate the toolkit to Tagalog, Malay, Thai, and Vietnamese. Results will be presented as a link to our website where the toolkit will be available in different languages.
We intend to produce innovative toolkit for children to learn and discuss about disaster risk management issues, benefiting at least 100,000 children and their families. Results will be presented as a report about the production and dissemination of the toolkit.
Porgress report
We are pleased to update that the PREDIKT Toolkit is in the process of expanding to a few new hazards: landslides, droughts, forest fire and haze, strong winds, and disease outbreak. This will make the toolkit cover 10 hazards, including the initial five: earthquake, volcano eruption, tsunami, floods, and house fire. We expect that in the next few months, the additional hazards will be ready to be produced for the toolkit.
Established cooperation with more than 20 organisations, including Government of Indonesia (Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social Affairs, National Disaster Management Authority), AHA Centre, UNICEF, Plan International, Save the Children, World Vision, Oxfam, ADRA, and local NGOs in Indonesia.
